I love painting angels, so I was stoked when I saw this assignment come into my email. She's one of my recent favorites.
Sometimes when I'm working on a job there are only a few parts of the painting that I really "enjoy" working on. However, all of the aspects of this piece felt fun, from the clouds to the borders to the costuming.
It's painted traditionally, because I'm a dinosaur like that. Maybe if I spilled some turpentine on my Wacom I could make the transition. Anyway, I start with an acrylic underpainting, and then add oil and colored pencil on top. The gold areas were done with gold ink mixed with a little linseed oil.
If you'd like to read more about this piece there's a blog post available showing the actual card, original art description, sketch etc. [link]
Also, there are two different limited edition print sizes available. [link]
I saw your art listed in Mitch Foust's Favorites and I am sure glad I visit his area. If not I would not have found out about what at great artist you are. And the beautiful work done on this piece.
I really wish I could have watched over your shoulder as you used all of those different materials. This is a wonderful painting. I'm amazed at all of the fine lines and detail you've added to it.
