7th Sea: Eisen by TereseNielsen 7th Sea: Eisen by TereseNielsen
Another in the 7th Sea series.
Usually my job is to make characters look better than life ... idealize them in some way. The mad king guy on the right was an exception. He was awkward to illustrate as he wasn't soooooo crazy that I could push that far enough to be obvious just crazy enough to look a bit bedraggled and barefoot as well as a bit too happy for the situation.

The creators of 7th sea are making a second edition. They've mentioned wantign to re-release the first, but don't have much of the original art. If you've got a good amount of it recreated, you might want to see about getting in touch with them. Just a thought ;)

I have 3 players in my 7th Sea game that play Eisen's.  That game lasted 4 years and during that time I must have looked upon this particular book more than 100 times.  I never noticed that he was not wearing shoes. I love all of the 7th Sea covers. Posen seems to stand out in a good way with the metallic sheen of her dracheneisen armor.   This is a great painting.

For those of you whom do not know, Eisen is a 7th Seas rendition of my ancestral homeland: Germany

Ah just took the book down for a closer look, never payed attention to backside/leftside, cause Sieger Pösen and Hainzl just hammers in the mind....

how about a tip (cause im struggling to do so) how "to make characters look better than life" ?

Ugh! That's not a 'short' tip. First take a lot of figure drawing and head drawing so you can make them look 'as good as life' then learn the subtleties of idealizing people without losing their 'realness'. Gobs of practice is the key!

Thank you.

Yes since these images were used for covers of a gaming book and each of the 7 nations had a certain "heraldry" associated with it. The client wanted to show this on a shield which would end up on the back cover... so that's why it's there.

Its really great and you depicted the other two for the scene but the king guy looks like the grim scene in the back doesn't seem to dull his day . I love the costume idea for them really sharp looking especially the guy with the iron arm.

Ya the king, he's off in his only little happy world ... or maybe it just makes him happy to have mud squishing through his toes.

OMG, the detail on the armor and costumes is amazing. I love the warm oranges on the skintones in contrast to the grey and gloomy atmosphere which is wonderfully done.

About the crazy guy: everone knows at least one person who's like that, don't we?

Forgive me for being somewhat blunt, but you're a bit TOO good. I mean, it gets a little annoying.
You deliver beautiful paintings over and over again... do you ever REALLY experiment?

I know it's just a narrow view we get on dA, but it doesn't hurt to check, I guess ;)

But the concept of hime that you draw is quite perfect! I love it, specially the Dracheneisen you did! Just as I imagine them!!!
Also the sad landscape, Eisen is a devastated nation... you make devastation concept as I imagine it too.

Actually, characters in 7th Sea should be idealized... or their defects should be exposed in some way... At least that's the way I understand the system - everything should be clearer easier to notice, than in reality.
